Vaijanti mala is an Indian film actress, dancer, singer, dance choreographer, and parliamentarian. She was born on 13th August 1936 in Madras Madras presidency British India she was born in Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family her father was Mandya D.Raman her mother Vasundhara Devi was a leading actress in Tamil cinema in the 1940 her grandfather’s name was M Dharti Gopalacharya and her grandmother was Vadugiri Devi. Vaijanti Mala married Chaman Lal Bali Who was a Punjabi Hindu Arya Samaji from Delhi. After marriage, she gave up her acting career and moved to Chennai. They have a son named Suchindra Bali.  Vaijanti mala made her screen debut at the age of 15 through the Tamil film in 1949 and Telugu film Jeevitham in 1950 and acted in Bollywood movie ‘Bahar’ . Following the success, Vyjayanthimala established herself as one of the Bollywood leading actresses while making footprints in Tamil and Telugu film industries. After successfully establishing herself as a commercial actress, Vyjayanthimala appeared in Devdas playing ‘Chandramukhi’. She received her first Filmfare award for best supporting actress at the 4th Filmfare awards but she refused to accept the award citing that it was not a supporting role being the first person to refuse the Filmfare award. Later, Vaijanti mala appeared in a series of blockbuster films such as ‘New Delhi’ and ‘Asha’. She reached the Pinnacle of Success in 1958 when films like : Sadhana and Madhumati became huge critical and commercial hits. She was nominated for Filmfare awards for best actress for Sadhna and Madhumati and won the award for the former. Vaijanti mala’s political career was initiated in 1984, when she contested in 1984 for Tamil Nadu general elections for the South Indian constituency as nominee for the Indian National Congress. She was directly elected for the Lok sabha by the end of January 1985 with Amitabh Bachchan.
