Ustad Qamruddin ‘Bismillah’ Khan

Ustad Qamruddin ‘Bismillah’ Khan was a legendary Indian Musician who is responsible for making shehnai popular worldwide. This great talented musician was born on 21 March 1916. He is credited not only ford for popularizing ‘Shehnai’ a folk instrument but also for making it so popular at the concert level internationally.

When he was 6 years old, he learned music from his maternal uncle ‘Ali Bux Vilayatu Khan’at Varanasi. by 14 years of age, he accompanied his uncle to Allahabad Music Conference. he was famous for his solo concerts and also his music composition for movies.

His biographies and a monograph about his life and his journey of music had inspired many readers.

He received a lot of awards and laurels as well as honorary doctorates. He received Padma Shri in 1961, Padma Bhushan in 1968, Padma Vibhushan in 1980, and Bharat Ratna in 2001 making him the third Indian Classical Musician to receive India’s highest civilian honor.
