P Bhanumathi was not only a famous Indian actress she was also a director, music director,  singer, producer, novelist, and lyricist. She was a superstar of Telugu cinema and the South Indian film industry. She also worked in Tamil cinema she was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2003 for her contribution to Indian cinema. She was given the title ‘women in cinema’ at the 30th international film festival of India. She was born to Saraswatamma and  Bommaraju Venkateswara  in a village of Prakasam district near Ongole Andhra Pradesh. Her father used to perform many stage shows .  As he was a lover of classical music, he trained her at an early age. Bhanumathi acted in almost 200 films in Telugu and Tamil. She started her debut in 1939. She was called as Avadhani by film industry people. She had a good knowledge of astrology and philosophy She was multi-talented and was a writer, actor, director, producer, singer, music director and she owned her own studio. Her film career began with a cinema called Kalindi in 1939 and in Varavikrayam Telugu. Her last film was made in 1998 and titled Pelli kanuka. She won many awards among that was the National award for the film and also Rashtrapati award. Apart from being an actress, she was even a talented musician as she was adept in both Carnatic and Hindustani music. She gave her voice to many actors as a playback singer. She was a member of the State film awards committee for two years. In her literary career, she was a talented writer. She wrote a number of short stories ‘naalo nenu’ was her autobiography in Telugu and also it was released in English.  Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy awarded her as a popular writer for the short stories named ‘attagari kathalu’.  She was a member of Lalitha Kala academy for 5 years. She was the founder member and treasurer of Madras branch of Altruism international Inc, Chicago for lifelong starting from 1963 and was a member of Red cross society. she founded an educational institution named doctor Bhanumathi Ramakrishna matriculation school in Chennai providing free education to the poor.  During the shooting of Krishna Prema she met Rama Krishna Rao who was the director and they got married on 8th August 1943.  She died at the age of 81 years in Chennai they have a son named Bharani
