Kumari Kamala was a splendid Indian Classical Dancer born on 16 June 1934 and was an Indian Classical Dancer. As a child dancer, she has performed in more than 100 films  in Tamil, Kannada, Telegu, and Hindi languages.

She became well versed in Hindustani Classical Music with the help of Shankar Rao Vyas and she underwent training for Kathak from Lachhu Maharaj in Bombay.  she made a smash hit with her film ‘Nam Iruvar’. She played a leading role in the Tamil film ‘Jagathalaprathapan’.

In the year 1953, she was called to perform for Queen Elizabeth’s II coronation festivities and in the 1950s she toured in Japan and China. She even took classes for two terms at Colgate University after she awarded with Branta Professorship in 1975.

She was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1970.
